As you may know, I have once again accepted the challenge and am participating in the Avon 39 mile Breast Cancer Walk. This year I am participating in the Boston walk in June.
When I signed up to participate in the Avon Walk in 2002 I did not know many women who had Breast Cancer. The only family member that I knew of that had it was my Paternal Grandmother. Shortly after signing up my friend Linda lost her Mom to her second battle with Breast Cancer; few months later Linda herself was diagnosed. I did the walk in October and then it struck my family again. My mother in law, Dolly, was diagnosed. This made me so much more committed. Since then I have had 5 other family members and friends diagnosed with Breast Cancer, one of whom lost her battle this past November. I have met so many Survivors on the walks; all of these women are strong and inspirational and determined to beat this disease. I am walking in Honor of all Survivors and in Memory of those who have lost their battle.
I have set a fund raising goal for the year of $2000. This will bring my 15 year fundraising total to over $80,000. The funds raised by the Avon Breast Cancer walks go toward, research, mammograms and supporting survivors.
