Friends!
Let's just get right to it: I need you to open your wallet and let me channel your support directly to the people who need it. The people who can make a real difference in the fight against breast cancer and the people who most need their help.
This year will be the SEVENTH year the Deenihans have been involved with the AVON39 (formerly known as the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer) - a two-day, 39.3 mile walk through Boston raising much-needed funds in the fight against breast cancer.
However this year is pretty special. It is the first year that JP and I are taking over leading the Boston Youth Crew...
This is a team of kids selected from applicants from all over the country who are the first to arrive at the event, the first to get to work, the first up every morning and the last to bed - working in support of the walkers every hour from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. As a team, they have been an inspiration from the very first time I saw them in action and I am thrilled - HONOURED, actually - to this year be serving as leader along with my most awesome six-year-walking-veteran bride, JP.
Why do we do this, my lovely bride, my ladies, and I?
Because the AVON39 goes so much farther than awareness. And though a huge portion of the funds they raise go into important research, they don't stop even there.
What I love most about the AVON39 is that they actually deliver CARE. A number of the organizations they support deliver care for women - and men - who are fighting the toughest battle of their lives. They pick up where insurance fails the patient. They work with medical, research, and hospice facilities to ensure that every patient who needs their support gets it - regardless of their capacity to pay. They even fund one charity, Community Servings, solely dedicated to providing meals for the families of cancer patients so that those families can focus their attention, love, and support on the patients themselves.
Care. Broad-shouldered, fiercely-determined, I-got-your-back kind of care.
I love that.
Help us help them help the people who need it. Let's do this.
