Each and every day I see woman who are also fighting the fight - it is such a common and often devastating disease and has affected my family, my friends and my patients in many ways. The woman I see and their families have such incredible courage and determination - grace and beauty - and anything that I can do to help is such a small contribution.
The funds I raise will be managed and distributed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade. The money goes to research, to pay for people without insurance get screening and diagnostic workup to paying for counseling, wigs and massage. I have been in an amazing position of one year hearing Avon talk about the research that they are funding - and then a year or two later watching it in action during actual patient treatment! We are making incredible progress!!
As many of you know - This will be my fifth year walking the Avon walk. Last year I worked crew as well the first day - checking walkers in. It was amazing meeting so many different kinds of people from around the country on the same mission - with the same goal in mind. All touched by this terrible disease. Ana also was part of Youth crew last year for the first time - and it was so much fun watching her grown and learn, working so hard, through the long, exhausting weekend! Well they didn't beat her down - she is also crewing again this year!
