Hi, my name is Maddie Eikinas and I am participating in AVON 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer. Whenever I ask for donations, I always feel really bad because it feels weird asking for money. I have given this awkwardness some thought, and I have come to realize that when I ask you to donate, I’m not asking for me, I am asking for your daughters, your mother your wife or maybe even you. Or maybe I’m asking you to donate for no one you know, but for that woman you see at the grocery market wearing the bandana or scarf to hide her bald head. You know who I am talking about, you may glance over at her and think to yourself, chemo. That’s not some nameless woman, that was once my mother.
As most of you know when I was four years old, my mom was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. I always thought that it wasn’t fair, why her? Why us? After three years of fighting and much help from our community and the best doctor in the world, Dr. Erban, the cancer eventually spread to her brain. I remember that she could barely talk. I asked her if she wanted a hug or kiss, she replied in a very faint voice “both”, as it turned out, that was the last word that she ever said to me as she soon lost her ability to speak. On Easter day we were driving to visit her and my dad got the devastating call, she had just died. Her beautiful hair and smile were permanently gone from the world. I couldn’t believe it. I would never wish such a thing on my worst enemy. I do this walk so no one has to go through what I did, the truth is cancer sucks and we need to kick its butt! So, please help with this goal of ours to help people dealing with this awful disease and to prevent it from happening to more people. Donate to save a life, it doesn’t matter if you donate $100 dollars or a penny, just the thought counts, and it definitely counts to the lives that we are saving. Join me in the fight against Breast Cancer!
Your donations will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. The dollars you pledge will put food on the table of a breast cancer patient and her family. They will enable access to mammograms and medicine, fuel research, and save lives.
Thank You
Maddie Eikinas
