Welcome, and thank you for visiting our AVON 39 team page!
In 2007, our team was formed by team captain Brigid Tuley, who had just completed her treatment of Stage 2 breast cancer that was diagnosed in 2006. After eight intense treatments of chemo, several surgeries, 33 radiation therapy treatments, many lab/doctor visits, and tears, she was ready to take her treatment/therapy battle cry (KSCA - Kicking Some Cancer A--) to the next stage - fundraising.
Since her first team in 2007, she has led a team each year in the annual Chicago Avon Walk: 26.2 days the first day, 13.1 miles the second day, by walking alongside thousands of women and men committed to defeating this disease.
The strength of our team, which includes survivors (Gretchen Polenzani, Gemina Petruzzelli, Kim Pavel and Julie Finney), has only been possible through the support from family, friends (old and new), our community and our BreastFest corporate sponsors (bfchampions.org/sponsors). This continual support motivates us in the fight to end Breast Cancer.
Each team member has her/his own reasons for participating - whether it's a past or current fight with breast cancer, the loss of a loved one, or a deep commitment to the cause - in the end, we are all committed to the same goal: Beat Breast Cancer.
During the months leading up to the 2017 walk, we will train for the 39.3 mile walk, and continue to fundraise as Avon requires that each team member raise a minimum of at least $1,800. Stay tuned to team news via our Facebook page (facebook.com/bfchampions) or website (www.bfchampions.org).
We hope that you join us in this battle!
