I am still so indignant that all the fight my friend Gralen had did not save her and she was taken from us last October by this horrible disease.  It's not fair that she should be taken so soon, less than a year after she found that lump in her breast. I have heard that she refused to say her good byes near the end, and I think that was so Gralen. To say good bye would have been to concede defeat and she was not one to do that. And neither will we. Though we have lost so many to this horrible disease, we will not concede defeat; we will fight and this walk is one such fight against breast cancer.

I am participating in AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer this year, the year that Gralen will have celebrated her 50th birthday. It feels right for me to do this, to continue the fight with the determination Gralen had. Walking over 39 miles in two days with other people with this same purpose is something I feel compelled to do, something I need to do.
