This year I will celebrate 11 years cancer free and I will be doing it by walking in my 6th Avon Walk to End Breast Cancer.  I am doing the walk in New York City this year!!!  What a wonderful and exciting way to celebrate!   The 39.3 mile, 2 day walk will take place October 15 and 16th.    Last June I walked in my hometown of Chicago, and because of your help I raised over $18,500!  In my 5 Avon walks to date, in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Long Beach and Chicago, I have singlehandedly raised over $50,000!  My fight continues in New York this year!  I know I’m asking early, but I want to make sure that I can make another huge difference for so many people! 

I continue to choose this event because I’m so impressed that the Avon Foundation for Women addresses the whole picture: medical research into the possible causes, prevention, treatment and cure of breast cancer; clinical care for breast cancer patients; support services for patients and their families; educational seminars; and early detection programs. There is a special focus on helping medically underserved women, the poor, minorities, the elderly, or those with inadequate health insurance.  At the end of the walk, we get to see exactly who benefits from your donations! 

Do you know that this year an estimated 40,000 will still die from breast cancer!  A life is taken every 14 minutes and a woman is diagnosed every 3 minutes!  An estimated 3 million women are living with breast cancer and 1 million don’t even know it yet!!   The numbers are still staggering.
