On July 8th and 9th I will be participating in my annual AVON 39: The Walk to END Breast Cancer!
Words cannot express my gratitude for your continued and VERY generous support of my efforts with my favorite charity. Since I started participating in the walk in 2004 as a Walker to honor my late friend Betty who passed away from breast cancer in 2003, I have raised over $52,000; THANK YOU!
I continue to participate in Betty’s memory, but now also in honor of the growing number of survivors I see every year, and to support all my “walk’ friends.
Since my 54 year old knees don’t like walking a marathon & a half (and at the request of the Crew Coordinator) I am on my favorite position of Rest Stop Closure Assistant. With my husband Dan in his favorite “out of the way” cheering stations, it has become a family affair; our family helping other families, all working to raise funds for research and support to find a cure and help the underprivileged and underserved get treatment, medical care, and even food and transportation during treatment.
Last year I was honored to be selected as the Crew representative speaking at opening ceremonies! After shedding a few tears in memory of Betty, we had a few laughs too; apparently there was a “walk rumor” that my husband cheered in memory of his late wife! Everyone cheered & applauded when I said” I’m happy to report I am his wife of 33 years, alive & well, and we are both here to cheer you on and take care of you this weekend! It really was a fantastic weekend where every hug, high five, and thank you immediately dispelled the lack of sleep and sore muscles.
I have set my fundraising goal for this year at $3,600, double the required walker minimum of $1800 and hope that I can count on your continued support. You can visit my web site at www.Avon39.org for more details about the walk, the people, and the foundation, see my progress as the walk gets closer, and of course to donate.
I cannot thank you enough for your continued support and generosity!
