Dear Friends and Family~
When I started my journey with Avon Walk for Breast Cancer six years ago, I never imagined how it would impact me and to what degree. As I reflected on the years’ previous walks, I did the math – stop shaking your head – I DID! I have trekked 196.5 miles in the actual walks in addition to countless hours of training. This from a Southern Belle who doesn’t like to wear workout clothes in general and is a head-sweater! (yes-that is a thing). And yet, here I am ready to do it again! The progress that has been made in diagnosing and treating breast cancer is amazing but we all know that there is a cure out there that needs to be found.
This year, I’m excited to share that I am officially part of a team! My friend and Jazzercise buddy, Mary Seeger, is joining me as a WARRIOR OF HOPE to train, fundraise and help change the lives of the thousands of women and men fighting breast cancer. This year’s Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is May 6-7 in Washington, DC. Mary and I have already begun our training walks but there are many, much longer walks in our future! We will do our part to train and prepare to complete all 39.3 miles but we need your help to make a difference too! Would you be willing to be an Honorary Warrior of Hope and donate to this worthy cause? I know it sounds cliché but every dollar truly makes a difference and brings us one step closer to finding a cure for breast cancer. All donations are tax deductible and many companies are even willing to match donations ~yay!
As many of you are aware, I wear a backpack on “Walk Weekend” covered with pink and white ribbons bearing the names of the warriors (pink) who are bravely continuing to fight and angels (white) who fought this disease. If you would like for me to add the name of a warrior or angel to my backpack, please send me their first name and last initial. I would be honored to add them to the “pack”.
Your support over the years has been in a word – overwhelming - and I cannot thank you enough. Help is needed for the thousands of warriors out there fighting who do not have the means to get the medicine and treatments they need to BEAT breast cancer. You will see and hear commercials for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on TV and the radio over the next few months. When you do, please whisper a little prayer of strength for the women and men fighting this disease and for Mary and me while we train. Together we can all be WARRIORS OF HOPE!
Love, Catherine
