I am participating in AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer. It won’t be easy, but that’s why it's worth it. From now until AVON 39 weekend, I’ll train to strengthen my body to walk over 39 miles in two days.
My Story: In 2014 at 36 years old I found a lump in my left breast. I called my doctor's office and they told me my doctor was out on sabbatical so they set me up for an appointment with the doctor covering for you. I saw that doctor that afternoon. She told me the lump felt like normal tissue and that I did not need to do anything about it now but to keep an eye on it and if it grows to come back. Well, it kept growing over the next few weeks so I made an appointment with my doctor. She immediately recommended I get a mammogram (it would be my first) and a biopsy. On November 12th I got a call from my doctor's assistant telling me they have the results and asked if I want them over the phone or if I want to come in... I know what that means so I said over the phone. My doctor got on the line and told me I had cancer and that it was rapid growing. After that moment things went pretty quickly to get treatment started. After many appointments and tests I started chemo on November 24, 2014. I did 8 rounds of chemo, a lumpectomy, and radiation. On April 21, 2015 I got a call from my oncologist letting me know that I am officially cancer free.
I am walking with my Auntie Betty and her friend Sharon...We are survivors! I’ll also be raising funds to crush breast cancer. This is where you come in.
I am required to raise at least $1,800 to EARN MY 39, but I plan to raise much, much more! I hope that I can count on your support!
You can make a donation right here on my webpage by clicking the "Donate Now" button to the right. If you prefer to write a check, click the “Donate By Mail” button and follow the instructions on the form.
Your donations will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation. The dollars you pledge will put food on the table of a breast cancer patient and her family. They will enable access to mammograms and medicine, fuel research, and save lives. Need any more reason to click that Donate Now button?
I’m walking with thousands of other 39ers. We’re banding together in solidarity and have one goal: to take breast cancer down. So many sisters and mothers and friends have been lost. We see a world without breast cancer for our daughters and nieces. AVON 39 is a force of change that can’t be stopped. By supporting me with a donation, you’re part of it.
