CHICAGO, May 2, 2017 – AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer kicks off its third event of its 15th season in Chicago June 3-4 with a steadfast commitment to help power more breast cancer research, more screenings and more survivors. The participants all have a fierce resolve to do something big and make an impact in the communities they live by fundraising and walking 39.3 miles in two days. United by the theme #FierceIsForever, the event series emphasizes action and inspiration.
AVON 39 Chicago – the third of seven walks across the country – celebrates the strength and philanthropic commitment of participants who raise $1,800 to accelerate breast cancer research; improve access to screening, diagnosis and treatment; and educate people about breast cancer. Since the series’ launch in 2003, more than 235,000 participants have raised nearly $620,000,000. Funds raised are distributed by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations with the goal of improving breast cancer outcomes and reducing disparities in survival rates.
Last year’s AVON 39 Chicago drew more than 1,600 participants from 46 states and Washington, D.C., including 248 breast cancer survivors, who raised $4.1 million to advance access to breast health care. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and the Avon Foundation for Women have awarded more than $62.4 million to organizations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin including Northwestern Medicine, Sinai Health System and Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center.
