Avon 39 the Walk to End Breast Cancer Returns to Santa Barbara September 9-10

SANTA BARBARA, July 21, 2017 AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer kicks off its fifth sixth event of its 15th season in Santa Barbara September 9-10 with a steadfast commitment to help power more breast cancer research, more screenings and more survivors. The participants all have a fierce resolve to do something big and make an impact in the communities they live by fundraising and walking 39.3 miles in two days. United by the theme #FierceIsForever, the event series emphasizes action and inspiration.

AVON 39 Santa Barbara– the sixth of seven walks across the country – celebrates the strength and philanthropic commitment of participants who raise $1,800 to accelerate breast cancer research; improve access to screening, diagnosis and treatment; and educate people about breast cancer. Since the series’ launch in 2003, more than 235,000 participants have raised nearly $620,000,000. Funds raised are distributed by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations with the goal of improving breast cancer outcomes and reducing disparities in survival rates.

Last year’s AVON 39 Santa Barbara drew more than 1,900 participants from 43 states and Washington, D.C., including 265 breast cancer survivors, who raised $4.6 million to advance access to breast health care. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and the Avon Foundation for Women have awarded more than $44.8 million to organizations in Southern California including UCLA’s Oliveview Medical Center, University of Southern California and Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.

AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer Santa Barbara will begin on Saturday, September 9 at 6:30 a.m. with an inspirational opening ceremony at Chase Palm Park. AVON 39 participants will then begin their challenge of 26.2 miles throughout Santa Barbara, assisted by an all-volunteer crew and cheered on by supporters. Participants will spend Saturday night at Basecamp 39 at Bella Vista Ranch and Polo Club, featuring pink two-person tents, hot showers and meals, entertainment and leisure activities, as well as volunteer medical services provided by AVON 39 Medical Sponsor Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.

On Sunday, September 10, after completing the final 13.1 miles, participants will join family and friends to celebrate their achievement at a closing ceremony at Carpinteria State Beach 2:00 p.m. During the ceremony, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade will award new grants to Southern California-area breast cancer organizations to ensure the funds raised will benefit the community immediately.

How to Register for AVON 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer:
Registration is open for New York (October 14-15), the final event of the 2017 season. Registration is also open for 2018 events in Houston (April 21-22); Washington DC (May 5-6); Chicago (June 9-10); Boston (June 23-24) and San Francisco (July 14-15).
