Determine Your Fitness Level

Beginner

  • You are relatively inactive
  • You cannot walk (or do other sustained activity) for a minimum of 30 minutes
  • You haven't participated in a fitness challenge event before.

Intermediate

  • You currently walk (or do other sustained activity) for 30 minutes or more
  • You can run/walk a 5k distance
  • You exercise regularly 3-4 times per week

Advanced

  • You exercise frequently (4 or more times per week)
  • You have no problem with sustained activity
  • You can run/walk a 10k distance
  • You have completed the AVON 39 in the past two years

If you’re new to walking, start with three 10-minute walks a day, one in the morning, one at lunch, and one before or after dinner.

BUDDY UP

Enlist a friend or family member to walk with you. Or grab your pooch. Dogs make great walking partners.

Take quicker — not longer — steps, letting your stride length come naturally.
